    AMC Trail Sign Auction

There's a good book on the shelves now called "Two Coots In A Canoe" which retells the story of two recently retired gents who decided to paddle a canoe the length of the Connecticut River. One of them was an enviornmentalist who gave grants to smaller, like minded non-profits and one of the...

    AMC Trail Sign Auction

What I dont understand is that if you can make a trail sign for $20 (or $40, or however much they cost) and you can sell it for $100 (or $150, or however much people will pay for a trail sign), then why dont you replace dozens and dozens of signs every year? I understand there's a tipping point...

    Ham on the summit?

Respectfully, isn't a ham on a summit a little obtrusive?

Two fox sightings in four days

Lot of foxes around here too. Our home's in a hemlock and birch forest with tons of squirrels and chipmunks so there's always lots of food for them. We see them every week, even the occasional grey fox.

    Rescuers fear "Yuppie 911"

...and lets all keep in mind that SPOT is very unreliable under cover of a think canopy of trees. I'm sure it's everything it's supposed to be while it's on water, and I'll bet it works well out west where the tree cover isn't as dense, but if you send an alert from a random point on a random...

    New fangled footware, really wierd

I hear good things about them too. A friend of mine runs in them and loves 'em. They're no stranger looking than Crocks. (Okay, maybe a little stranger looking...)

    Whitefield Wind Turbine

Interesting conversation and like erugs, I agree and disagree. I think the arguement that the demand for the product cant be met isnt quite right. It is being met. If it weren't being met then we'd have no place to fill our cars with gas, or when we flipped the switch in the kitchen, the lights...

    Bears in Whites

My buddy is building a house in Jackson and a bear comes calling almost every morning to rifle thru the dumpster. The other day, a couple of "city slickers" came by to lay the carpet down and saw the bears and damn near splatted. My buddy toyed with 'em a bit, telling them that "the bears are in...

I definately plan on getting back on the mountain bike and back up on the summits when this is all done. I'm still in the mtns at least once a week but I havent stood on...

    Hip replacement surgery

Cymbidium, I considered Concord but I passed on their new technique. From what I heard, their's is a promising procedure but it's still relatively new. I'm having it done old skool style in Massachusetts. Audrey, tell Pat I might take him up on your offer of a phone call. Maybe this weekend...

    Hip replacement surgery

Hi, I'm scheduled for hip replacement surgery for December 3rd. I was wondering if anyone has had any experiences with this as far as things to look for (or lookout for), recovery or insurance stories, or anything else. I'm already looking forward to next spring when (hopefully) I'll be able...

    Home Fitness Equipment Recommendations

Hi Marty, Whatever you decide to buy, make sure you check out craigslist, ebay and the want-ads. It's always a huge buyers market for any type of fitness equipment. People always buy stuff with the best intentions but the equipment turns into a hat rack after 3 months. bob

Fall colors and seasonal change thread

I did the Tunnel Brook Trail yesterday and the colors are coming along nicely. Maybe a week away from peak? I'm leaving for Pittsburg, NH, on Sunday. I'd think it's going to be very beautiful up there. Here's a link to a neat little foliage map on visitnh.gov...
