    Hiking Skirts

Buttttttttttttttttt..... The skirt may allow for some more privacy while taking pitstops, but I find that the chances for unwanted flashings would be too great while trailrunning. It seems that if I'm just hiking, then I have no problem going further off trail for all the privacy I want...

Lunch anyone? What to eat on a winter day hike

Same stuff as the rest of the year In order to maintain an appetite, it seems that I enjoy a regular break for lunch. Also regular food is more satisfying than continuously munching. From reading these other posts, I see that is not the norm. But there may be others out there that enjoy a...

How much do you really drink on a winter hike?

a little more yellow, please A couple weeks ago while wandering around on the cone of Marcy in near-zero visibility, it would have been greatly appreciated if the cairns were piled an eenzy-weenzy bit higher. Could you pleeeeeeeze throw a stone on some of those cairns while your out there?!

How much do you really drink on a winter hike?

Soooooo Cory, do you think that is why I keep falling down on the march back to the car? Tripping over that heavy leg?!

How much do you really drink on a winter hike?

about 1 L in 8hrs I usually carry 2L because some trips go over 8hrs, but I only drink 1L max. Of course I gulp down lots of fluids the pre/post hike drive, but during the effort I feel fine w/ 1L or 1.5L for a longer trip.

Large slow steps, or small fast steps?

As I think of it Higher revolutions in a smaller gear are less fatigueing. Learn to spin the little gears fast, then learn to spin the bigger gears fast! In the world of trailrunning, there is less impact if you keep the legs light and moving quickly. Saves joints and creates less...

    Microspike Leashes

modification Before I even got out to check my new leashes I found a simpler method. Attaching a caribeaner to my bootlace, I can quickly snap on to the Microspike when I don them! Lighter, simpler and always ready.

    Microspike Leashes

Just thought I'd pass this idea along.:) Since I have had my Microspikes fall off after getting stuck on a branch or stub, I decided to put 'safety' straps on them so they don't get left behind. I modified some leashes I had around the house from assorted college / business promotions. These...

    SPOT - GPS Locator...

Just a funny posting ---- My husband was going to give me a SPOT for Xmas. I told him it probably wasn't the best equip't based on some of the reports I'd read here - such as the following one (which I sent to him to confirm our decision not to buy one): Here is the message that he sent me...

    Mt Santanoni Attempt, 12/26

Or....... are you hoping some Others will come to finish the job so you can get all 3 in your bag?! :D

    SPOT - GPS Locator...

I agree, Neil. It is fun to bite off more than one can chew, but for my beloved's sake he thought I should carry a SPOT. A sat phone weighs waaaaaaaaaay too much for me to even consider - I've done it! It would be easier to get an extention cord for my phone that carry that ball and chain around.

    Adirondack Trailrunning!!

Hoffman Notch snowshoe Tom, Cory! How about doing the Hoffman Notch course? I'm thinking about doing that event this year. We might be able to get away w/o snowshoes still. Cory - I'm more of a redneck, but I'll bring a patch for your bleeding heart.

    Adirondack Trailrunning!!

Anyone interested in getting together for some trailrunning? The Taconic Crest Trail is quite close to home for me. I would also like to check out some of the trails mentioned at adktrailrun.com which provides a multitude of route maps (and some gear review). With winter approaching some...

A bad expierence in the woods today......

I couldn't believe it when I read your post!! I am so relieved that you are OK!!! Thanks for the warning. Why so many crazy shootings?!!! Praise God you are safe.

    Bells?!

Better safe....! One reason that I consider whether I'm "being offensive" is that some people think that unless you are doing the same activity as them they are not happy to see you. Mountain biking, dirt biking and trail running are not always welcomed?! Another reason that I take...
