    Spot

I will check out the SummitPost link. I realize it was discussed a bit before, but that was a while ago - before many have used it and before the $50 price drop. My interest would be in sending OK messages to concerned parties. (My husband already told me that it better have an IGNORE button...

    Spot

I am considering getting a SPOT messaging system for when I'm in the woods alone. They cost about $100 (after $50 rebate :)), have an annual fee of another $100 and seem like "essential" gear. Does anyone have experience using one? It seems advantageous to send status updates as well as...

    Bells?!

I was behind the hunter and he was walking through the crunchy leaves so he didn't hear my running steps. That was why I waved when he did eventually turned my way. When he didn't return the wave, but slid behind a tree, I felt compelled to holler. It reminded me of the time I was mt biking...

    Bells?!

OOoops! I forgot about Turkeys. I probably looked like a large turkey!! Yikes -- A red hat, blue pack w/ lots of colorful patches and scrawny black legs. :D This was the Garden trail and although I did see a very massive doe yesterday, I had never seen so many hunters. With all the recent...

    Bells?!

Am I a ding-dong for thinking that maybe I should wear a bell while trailrunning at this time of year? I had on a red hat and colorful clothing, but it just seemed like maybe some kind of noice other than me crunching down the icy trail would be more of an alert that I'm not a deer?! In the...

Hi Tom!! I recall you mentioning that you would like to do the Haystack / Basin / Saddleback loop w/ "icy" conditions. Looks like tomorrow is the day I'm going. Any chance you can join me? Do you think snowshoes will be necessary to carry? Thanks - Inge

    Hand Guns in the HP

Does he have an unrestricted permit ? If he has a pistol permit, but not a permit to carry, then he must have his gun visible and intending to do some target shooting or hunting. If he has a permit to carry concealed (unrestricted permit) then he can carry his gun w/o special intent.

Trail across Brodie Mnt. (Berk. Cty.)

about 7 yrs ago It was a while ago that I did a trailrun from BrodieMt Road to 5 Corners, rte 43. It started as a ATV trail, changed to a logging route, ski trails toward the summit of Brodie, then back to logging roads and old woods roads and good old bushwhacking! The ridge was easily...

    Lyme...bulls eye rash...spider bites?

From my experience - I have had lyme disease a couple of times and when I took the treatment (21days of Doxy), I was cured - no flare-ups. The "flare-ups" that you are referring to may be related to when one doesn't treat it fairly close to exposure??

    Lyme...bulls eye rash...spider bites?

lyme, lyme, lyme I was diagnosed w/ a spider bite and treated w/ 5 days of antibiotics and returned to health in 5 days. 5days later I was sick again. Being that I suspected Lyme, I went back to get the 21 treatment and really recovered. I'd go w/ the Lyme treatment and if it's a spider bite...

    New Adirondack Speed Climbing Record

#3, #8, #24 Do their success records fail to impress you because there is no change of elevation? or because they have an incredible support team? :D PS - I am also impressed by your accomplishments on the AT. ;)

    New Adirondack Speed Climbing Record

Each life is different than any other's life Dear AntlerPeak - I am surprised that you are not impressed. You may surprise yourself and see how impressed you actually are if you were to attempt to "even" hike a couple of peaks at the pace (~2.3miles/hr) that Jan kept for the entire 46 peaks...
