    Balsam Lake, Graham, Doubletop 4/15/06

As a matter of fact, the candy bar was found also. That must of been my reward for climbing Graham 3 1/2 times in 2 days. Zer0-G, I wish your glasses weren't buried so deep in your pack along with the orange stuff sack. I can't wait to see what lessons will be learned the next outing we join...

Coldfeet, Until you buy that GPS, make sure you clip the zippers together on you backpack pockets. That might save you the Easter Cell hunt I did. I was very lucky to actually get all my stuff back since it was lost on a bushwack where we were switchbacking on steep terain. Zer0-G had a good...

    Balsam Lake, Graham, Doubletop 4/15/06

Easter Morning Cell hunt a success. My daughter and I hiked up to Graham early this morning. I backtracked the GPS track for the bushwack towards Doubletop and using a second phone we were able to find the lost phone. This really was like finding a needle in a mountain. I will consider this...

Number 33, 34, and 35 in the books. Another good day of hiking with great people. Katherine and Steve picked me up at New Paltz and continued on to the DB trailhead at the end of Beaver Kill Rd where Ronnie was waiting for us to arrive. We had a 9:00 start under cloudy skies and about 55 deg...

    Hiking (Backpacking) by Moon light

I have hiked under the moon several times on the AT, provided the trail was mostly rock free. During the hot summer months hiking under the moon lets you beat the heat of the noonday sun. During the cold months, a full moon over a blanket of snow is the most peacefull hike you can take.

    Hundred Mile Wilderness in June

I hiked Kahtadin and the 100 mile wilderness South to Monson over Fourth of July week two years ago. The black flies and mosquitos were very thick, but doable with a head net and a lot of DEET. The trail was in good condition and the river crossings were average with only one that came up to...

    North Carolina Hiking

Just to add my 2 cents to the Mountains of the South. Last year we did a section hike on the AT from Damascus to Pearisburg which started on April 23. We figured that late April should provide us with some pretty nice weather in the South. We had camped a couple miles North of Damascus. The...
