    Mount Rainier!

We were pretty proud, and yes, it did kick our butts! It was a huge accomplishment to do this unguided (although there was quite the rut to follow, the rock sections were tricky to navigate and we had to time things well to avoid rockfall!) It was super fun! Next on the list of mountains is...

    Mount Rainier!

Five of us headed out to Seattle, WA on August 1, 2009 to attempt to climb Mount Rainier (Brett, John, Don, Aaron, and myself). We spent our first night in a hotel in Tukwila and then headed out to some shops to pick up some gear. I picked up my new sleeping bag from Feathered Friends and...

    Moonlight Presitraverse July 4th

I can no longer be optimistic about the weather. I don't think it will ever stop raining! I think I should be building an arc, not an addition!

    Moonlight Presitraverse July 4th

I have to cancel my plans for the weekend. We are trying to build an addition on our house and we did not get as far as we had hoped to this week. We have a part of the house exposed and we need to get the roof up this weekend! I am bummed, but getting the house weather tight is important...

Five of us will be attempting Mount Rainier this August. Our route is to go up to Camp Muir and take the Disappointment Cleaver to the summit and then back. Don and I are also planning to attempt Mount Shuksan after Rainier. We plan to go up the Sulfide Glacier or the Fisher Chimneys. Does...

    Moonlight Presitraverse July 4th

I am looking to do a moonlight presi traverse 4th of July weekend if the weather is clear. There will be close to a full moon and it just seems like a fun thing to do! I am thinking of doing the short version- up valley falls to Madison hut, hit all summits and then take crawford path out. I...

The Presi Traverse March 21-22, a success, but not without incident

I use microspikes for short local hikes when I am training with a backpack. I did notice that the heavier the weight in my pack the less stable they are. I also found that they are great to run in and move quickly in! I feel more comfortable in the mountains with crampons because that is what...

The Presi Traverse March 21-22, a success, but not without incident

After talking it over it seems like the issue with the spikes was due to the ice on the side hills and the areas where there was snow on top of ice. Instead of biting in they slid. That was all they brought with them so it was far better than nothing. The day before they worked great (In fact...

The Presi Traverse March 21-22, a success, but not without incident

Thanks! I am glad we did it, but it was definately not one of my favorite trips due to the accident. I just hope that others can learn from the mistake. Light packs are nice, but safety needs to come first. Everyone gives me a hard time about bringing too much stuff and being too uptight...

The Presi Traverse March 21-22, a success, but not without incident

Well, after completing the winter pemi loop last weekend, we were off to tackle the Presi Traverse. Don, Mike,Sue, and I started out Saturday morning by getting a great breakfast at the Water Wheel Restaurant. We all gave it a thumbs up! After filling our bellies I pounded a Red Bull and we...
