I don't recall any obvious trail that continues on. I didn't know there was supposed to be one so I wasn't looking for it though. The obvious trail just dead ends at that dropoff. I'll have to check it out next time I'm there.

The Catskills are probably worth visiting at least once just to experience something a little bit different. That said, after doing ~20 peaks there I personally have zero desire to spend any more time in the Cats. There's better mountains to be had.

This is also an excellent recommendation. Being able to see the sprawling lake country and the High Peaks from the same summit is pretty cool. And it can be done in just a few hours.

My favorite hike for someone new to the Adirondacks is still Gothics via Pyramid. It gives you some steep climbs, a 360° view from the summit, and some great views of the unique Adirondack slides from Pyramid. If you want some short hikes for a quick morning/afternoon, I'd recommend Noonmark...

Definitely check out the Anaconda-Pintler wilderness - it is just north of Little Bighorn. It's a great section of mountains that gets very little attention so you don't get many crowds. Here's pics from the two hikes I did there: Goat Flat West Pintler Peak

I was there this time of year back in 2008. Don't remember any bugs, just lizards and snakes. There were still wildflowers around that year too.
