Upper works to Flowed Lands, crossed Opalecent Rever to the bay past the island, then the fun began. Somebody had made an "attempt" at this route, but quickly (less than 1/4 mile in) abandoned it. Full-scale guerilla-warfare bashwack all the way to the summit (4.5 hours for 1.5 miles- ugh!) Thank Ron L. (4x W46r) he did almost all of the trail breaking - a winter hiking machine. Be careful at the few small stream crossings after entering the woods past the bay, they look solid, but are simply light ice bridges over the streams. Follow our route, and you will get to the summit, but it will be slow going - looks out for numerous spruce-traps early. Incredibly thick in spots, lots of blowdown, but super rewarding to take such a difficult route. Decent will be very quick.
