I just got back from finishing the 100 mile wilderness trail with Muddy Trails and Handsome John. We started out planning to carry all the food that we would need for 10 days. Unfortunately, the day before the trip I discovered we did not have enough space in our packs to accomplish this. I was able to find someone to provide a food drop at Jo-Mary Road for us near the half way point. We really lucked out on the weather. Had only two days of rain.
Even with only two days of rain there was still a lot of mud on this trail. A couple of tricky water crossings. I found that clipping the top and bottom of our packs with carabiners to the river lines made the crossings much easier.
Beautiful views and challenging trails. Met lots of thru hikers. Water was plentiful throughout the trip. I would recommend not camping at the Chairback Lean-to as the water there was more of a pond then a spring.
Stopped at White House Landing on the 7th day into our trip (same day we received our 2nd day of rain). Their 1 lb deluxe hamburg really hit the spot.
Lots of moose droppings along the trail. Finally saw a moose at Rainbow Stream Lean-to. The loons were doing their mournful wails during the entire night at Rainbow Lake. Black flies and mosquitoes weren’t all that bad. I had brought a bug net and bug dope along but did not need to use them.

Trail was well marked for the entire trip. The trail maintenance done from the top of White Cap to Abol Bridge is quite impressive.

Great trip to learn the meaning of packing light.

Equipment: Usual stuff, gaters highly recommended.
