Last year's turnout was much larger than the previous year, and we were almost at capacity for the room we were in. To be sure of getting a reservation, try to get your check in well before 3/10.

For the last nine years, there has been a dinner gathering of Adirondack winter hikers. It’s always on the first Saturday after the end of official 46er Winter (always 3/21). It's a gathering, not an official meeting, so there's no agenda, business, awards, voting, etc. The only semi-formal part of the evening is when people who have just finished their Winter 46 introduce themselves, and say something about their experience. Last year things got out of hand, and this didn't happen. We are going to be careful to make sure this years finishers have a chance to do this. Maybe last year's finishers too. It’s a way to get together for several warm (deservedly so!) hours of recollecting, storytelling, face stuffing, foible jabbing, plan making, and potential hiking partner meeting. You may even meet the people who go with the names you’ve seen in trail registers, or still remember from the summit canisters. It’s nice to be able to sit and talk at length with fellow hikers without getting cold, breathless, or way behind the rest of the group. You don’t need to have done all 46 in winter to attend, and family is also welcome, if you think it wise to let them meet us.
Wearing an old name tag or button from a previous 46er meeting or elsewhere would help the mingling process. We usually have some name stickers, so don't worry if you can't find an old one.

A postal money order may solve the payment problem for Canadians. To avoid having the 46er Club getting stuck paying for no-shows, please make payment when you make your reservation. Consider a reservation to be an obligation to pay. Let me [Mark Lowell [email protected] ] know if you're iffy, and I'll see what we can do. If you want to attend, we'd like you to. But we may be in a slightly smaller room this year, so space may be limited.

Children over 13 will be charged the adult rate. (Today, a child over 13 is a man or a woman. Mazel Tov!) Children under 3 are free but they must eat off their parent's plate. Sounds like a beautiful family-bonding opportunity!

Just a reminder that we'd really like to have your reservations and payment by this coming Saturday, 3/10. But don't sweat it if you don't get it in the mail until Fri or Sat.
The dinner is in less than 3 weeks!
Please remember to get into the mountains during the upcoming last 2 weekends of winter!!

Unfortunatly I'm not going to be able to make it this year. I will be hiking in Arizona that weekend.

It's not too late

I just heard from Peggy. We have about 70 reservations in, so we've met the minimum of 60 (I hadn't mentioned that). Now that we have a good ballpark figure to give the Crowne Plaza, I guess they can wait a bit longer for the final, exact figure. So if you just realized you can make it that day after all, or whatever your story is, you're not too late. Peggy has to have the exact number in by Monday, so please make sure to get it in the mail to get to Peggy by Saturday.
