First, thx to Laurie and 3500 club for organizing trip to Twin and Sugarloaf. I did it, slowly going up the notch to Twin first only .7 miles (really cool stone chairs at the quarry) then the lower Twin and very, very slow coming back down. Then I looked at the sign for Sugarloaf 1.2 miles thinking ok I could go home proud of the hike or pushing it. I decided to push it, that idea lasted app 30 seconds but Laurie had a good idea to drop some gear to lighten up. All I dropped was app 2 lbs but mentally and physically it made a difference. Somehow the trip up Sugarloaf was longer but it didn't feel as steep as Twin. Beautiful views and it was in the low 70's. I took it really, really slow coming down and I think I sweated more coming down than going up because of the pressure on my knee and I was concentrating 1000% on each step. total trip app 9 miles took app 7 plus hours, ascent 2900 as per the cannister info.
Second, never look at digital pictures while driving, a car about 1 minute ahead of me hit a deer and I didn't notice it on the highway by the time my brain realized what happened I had no choice but to go straight and I missed it by a few feet The car next to me was not paying attention and drove over the body, I saw him pull over later. Lesson learned, keep eyes on road.
Third, Laurie was 1/2 correct, my thieghs (sp) hurt today but not my knee. Going to dr. tomorrow for 6 week check up, will probably get it drained.
Fourth, crazy drivers coming home, very dangerous.
Fifth, I did groan in pain out load I think 2-3 times and had app 15-20 quiet groans. (during hike)
This was my first hike in 2 1/2 months and only like my 25th since getting into this hobby. I know I can do it just a little slow going up and very very slow coming down, but I'll be there! Nice to be back in the game, have a great summer!
