Big thx to Funkyfreddy going with me, always has a great story to share...we left NYC app 5am and arrived at the Barnum Rd trailhead at 8, the plan was to hike Thomas Cole (3940) then to Black Dome (3980) then Blackhead (3940)..we barebooted it to 3500 went up the Camel's Hump, took pics and put the crampons on....didn't take long but then we were on Thomas Cole...no views there but you could see Black Dome ahead through the trees....went down into the col and then the problem started....somehow the button on my Grivel's that lock the slide bar in kept popping open, I fixed it and it poped open again, this happened 2times...We were almost at the ledge of Black Dome so I hiked with one crampon on and one off for app 15min until we came to the ledge to sit down and figure out the problem (30-45 min)...the clip also came off (2nd time in the past 2 hikes)...it just so happened that I carried my cell phone and i joked around about calling the store Rock and Snow in New Paultz...guess what?..i had service and called them "CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW?" ..told them that i was on top of a mountain and i needed technical service...they confirmed on how to set up the clip and wala! We were off to the next ledge...at this time it was 12:30 and it started to snow...I decided that if the crampon was to fail again I would rather be hiking out towards the car not away from it...everytime i took a step i was thinking if it was going to come off, it didn't...after that Freddy and I went to see the Kaaterskill Falls, first time for me...very cool.....Setting up my new avatar..

I do carry duct tape, and bungi cords also in case i had to really figure out the problem.....the weather was in the high 20's to low 30's and not windy...

Glad you were able to receive Rock N' Snow's on-summit phone support! Between that and the side trip to the Falls, seems like a memorable day. Thanks for stopping by for the eats and drinks-it was good to see you both. Another perk of living in New Paltz-friends from the NJ-NYC-LI area stop by to visit on their way back from the Catskills!

Hi David, Thanks for the hike and the pictures, etc.! I had a great time hiking with you on Thurs., it was a great highlight to an otherwise dreary week. I haven't had time to get my pictures up but will post back when I do. Looking forward to hiking with you again soon. Thanks, Fred
