Trail Conditions: Muddy/boggy down below, due to today's rain, but pretty wet usually, I would think. All water crossing quite easy--no issues.

Special Equipment Required: Today, rain gear, and shoes/pants you don't mind getting muddy. I would have thought bug dope a must, but the rain kept the bugs at bay until the sun came out at 2--still there were fewer bugs than I expected.

Comments: This is a lovely hike, even in the rain--I love the open meadow-y feel at the bottom and walking up through all the birches. I would certainly do this again, as it was my first time hiking in the North Country area north of Berlin--lots to see. Well, there will be more to see when it's not socked in my rains and clouds...

Sad to say/see, but the headless moose carcass is, of course, still trailside. The smell precedes the slightly gruesome view.

Note also, per a previous posting---the Berlin Fish Hatchery gates are now open until 10 pm, not 4 pm as posted. (per a phone call to their office...)
