8-30-13: Galehead and The Twins
Trails: Ascent: Gale River Trail, Garfield Ridge Trail, Frost Trail, Twinway, N. Twin Spur
With an uncertain forecast I thought I would roll the dice and check off Galehead for this month. The humidity was extremely high and it looked like the mountains would be socked in for the duration of the day. I met some Thru-Hikers at the hut and the staff was very pleasant and friendly.
The Gale River Trail had some significant mud in sections.
River crossings were not an issue.
There were some large puddles in the usual places on the Frost Tr.
Rocks were extremely slippery on the .8 ascent from the trail junction to South Twin.
Although there was little to see on the horizon there was some clearing around 2:00 just in time for me to see the Twins and Galehead reveal themselves as I began my descent. It's always good to get out
