Set out from Plymouth at 5:30am with some buddies to Pinkham Notch to hike and snowboard in the bowl. Temps were in the mid-30s to start but rose to much above that I'm sure. It was a beautiful day in the ravine and snowboarding was great. Hiked the ladder up the lip twice and traversed over to "The Chute" and central gully on the far lookers left of the headwall. Got some fresh tracks above the ravine and in chutes.
Great times watching people in the ravine, hung out for a while and had beers and laughs on the rocks. Couple good falls and good skiers pulling tricky lines through different chute variations for entertainment as well as people descending the Lip without skiis or a board. Seemed kind of stupid being in the skiers way when they possibly can't see you from above, and constantly getting hit with snow from skiers above. Got a good sunburn to the face to show for it all.
If you intend making a trip up there, I'd do it soon. The Sherburne trail is 2/3rds open. The last leg is gettin pretty bare so I'd assume they will be closing more soon. All major chutes and gullies still have good snow as of today. Hillmans looked great from Hojos. I was able to bareboot the whole way with poles. A great day!!
Pictures HERE...enjoy!
