Bintrepidhiker and I got out on Saturday to take my new favorite nature walk; the Colette Trail at along Bicknell Brook. The trail is 2.1 miles long and leads to Crystal Lake where it ends. There was very thick ice along most of the brook and in some areas it was completely frozen over. Crystal Lake was much nicer than last time I visited it, thanks to a complete ice cover.

The conditions overall were great...there was just enough snow to keep me in a good mood, and I didn't really need any traction on my boots, except for one really hairy area that we bushwhacked around. The normal cascades and waterfalls were all frozen over, which was very impressive to me. It just shows how cold its been over the past several weeks after the seemingly endless warmth thru early January.

The other highlight of the day was seeing the amount of animal tracks cris crossing the landscape. We saw deer, bobcat, snowshoe hare and an assortment of smaller rodent tracks. I'm glad this area is a conservation area. Its beautiful.
