A trail being open on the first day of the overnight camping season is a rare event. Two Rangers went up Abol on the 14th to check conditions on the Tableland, and the Slide Trail was declared open the next morning. The MATC finished up doing trailwork on the Hunt Trail on the 14th, and that trail will open by next week. Spring was pretty advanced, about three weeks ahead. Blackflies present, but not yet pesky. Anyone hiking into the Park from Abol Bridge should be aware the two plank bridges are out (won't be replaced) and the water is high and fast. You can hike around the fords via an unblazed high water trail that's fairly easy to follow.
