Trail Conditions: just a dusting of snow. no issues w/stream crossings. very few blowdowns. but there is ice in abundance, particularly at higher elevations. there's one exposed and icy spot on carter ledge trail, not far from the jct w/middle sister trail. not a good place to fall. we agreed we would not have wanted to descend that way.
Special Equipment Required: despite plentiful ice, only one of seven of us (me!) used stabilicers, which were as much a pain in the a$! as a help. With our without traction, you will pick your way through the icy spots with care, and you'll bushwhack around the thickest ice.
Comments: although we turned back without summiting, due to frigid temps and howling winds with borderline knock-you-over gusts, we had a great day. saw lots more sun than we expected to, and both the carter ledge and middle sister trails were very enjoyable, and new trails to most of us. thanks to bill, foster, gerry, john, kevin and susan for their company.
