Valley Way was broken and packed to the tent site spur. From there to the hut it was drifted over. I had to break trail all the way to the hut. The side slopes in that section were really slippery and tricky. It was really tough and exhausting just trying not to slide off the trail. I almost bailed out but since this is my second attempt at Adams this winter, I pushed on to the hut and got my energy level back. From the hut to Adams, the conditions were excellent. Lots of windswept, styrofoam snow and bare rocks with very little ice. I wore my snowshoes all day. Snowshoes for the trail and any kind of traction for above tree line will work. I carried my crampons and microspikes, but the televator heels on my MSR lightnings worked great. I had the trail to myself today, but I did see a person on the summit of Adams when I was climbing the cone. They must have come up from Lowes Path. Overcast but very mild temps with winds about 25 mph with maybe a 35 mile gust once in awhile, but really not bad. No knock you off of your feet stuff. I just kept my face covered. Goggles not needed. Visibility was very good. No blow downs. All in all a good day.
