One word...SWEET! No 3 words..SWEETER than SWEET...and thats SWEET! Thats how I discribe climbing Algonquin in 70 degree weather in shorts the first weekend of April.
The trail was ice and hard packed snow all the way.Once you got to the krummholz zone the snow was 3-4 ft deep so if you stepped off the spine .The views were outstanding, but it was windy on top so you had to find a spot out of it to eat and enjoy the beautiful day.
On the hike up I used my micro-spikes which worked great...on the way down I used my crampons for alittle more bite. For now you still have to have snowshoes but I didn't use them.
I think this will be the last of the snow but it was alot of fun!!!
Get ready for the MUD and BUGS!!!
