JayH, MattC and I all met in New Paltz on Fri night to head North for some more Dacks hiking. We were dropping Matt off at a camp site and continuing on to the Allen PA. The plan was to rejoin Matt and others on Sunday for TMax's 46 finish.

Jay and I were the only ones in at the PA when we arrived. Thru the night other cars came and in the morning a large group had arrived from the Albany ADK.
We had our breakfast and were on the trail by 7:00. The trail was fairly dry with berries all around. I did all I could not to slow us up by not stopping to eat the fruit of the trail.

We made it to the jct of the yellow, red, trail and path to Allen where we took a little break before continuing on. We talked to a pair of hikers who were heading up to the slide on the back side of Cliff.

We continued into the forest along Twin Brook, across Skylight and up along Allen Brook. We proceeded up along the slide. When we came to the steep slab on the slide we went to the right and reached the top just to the South of the summit. We caught some nice views but knew that we were not yet on the true summit. We found some herd paths and made our way to the peak. There were 2 hikers at the summit already and before we had finished our lunch there were 12 to 15 hikers squeezed in at the summit sign. Two of the hikers were completing their 46. Congratulations to them.

After gobbling down our food we started down. We went down the other side of the slide. This was by far the beaten down path. We kept a steady pace back to the trail jct where we took one more break before heading out.

From this point out was the long flat walk out. On the return trip I could not resist the ripe berries and ate as I walked all the way out. I think Jay was thinking, "eat all you want, but if you're not out to the car I'm leaving without you."

We made it back to the car by 4:15 and headed to the Noonmark for dinner. We had our meals and found a place to camp for the night.

The next morning we were to meet the group at the Garden by 10:00. At around 8:00 the rain had settled in and we were at the garden by 9:00 waiting. Harry, Terry, Dawn and Al and his children all showed up and had decided to leave Terry's finish on Big Slide for a better day. We all went down to the Noonmark for breakfast after picking up Matt from the outfitters. Nice meeting you all and Jay thanks for a great hike up Allen.

Good Going Doodles....

I can see you were in good company for this one.
I am quite surprised you made it out given your love of the berries.
I was sure we would not hear from you again....

Getting closer ....

Not again!?!?!

You know what they say: The fifth time is the charm! :D

Had a great time Doodles, thanks for showing me pointers with the hammock saturday night. I guess it must have kept the rain away til sunday morning.

Good to see everybody else and to get my Nalgene back that I was sure I left it at the trailhead for Boundary Peak, NV... Now I can cancel the flight to Anchorage, AK to go to the REI there... ;)

Tom, I've definitely got some bad karma with Big Slide :D.

Doodles, nice job on Allen. It was great to finally meet you. Good luck with your peak bagging next week. I'm still thinking about "sneaking up" on Big Slide via a bushwack from Porter, if things work out right, it would be great to plan a big finish for both of us!
