Trail very muddy, don't bother trying to avoid it. The herdpath up Allen is relatively easy to follow and in relatively good condition. Nice climb up the brook, although slippery. Note that the bridge to cross the Opalescent River is down so you may have to wade across the river about 2 feet deep. Long 18 mile hike, but not as bad as many people describe, just expect mud and bugs.
