AMC is continuing its Mountain Watch program to encourage people to record alpine plant phenology (what stage a plant is in, bud, flower, seed, etc.) for ecological research; they're including any of the above-treeline areas in the northeast (including Monadnock and Cardigan) & the six target species are

labrador tea (Ledum groenlandicum)

diapensia (Diapensia lapponica)

mountain cranberry (Vaccinium vitis-idaea)

mountain avens (Geum peckii)

alpine bilberry (Vaccinium uliginosum)

Bigelow's sedge (Carex bigelowii)

I participated in this program last year and found it to be interesting and rewarding. I learned a lot about each target species and got a lot of satisfaction in contributing to the body of knowledge.
