Here's a video of a large kyrgyzstan avi that shows an amazing amount of material moving toward the hiker from a looong way away.

Reminds me of the tsunami footage from areas inundated in Japan. It just keeps on coming!

As the photographer says... "Oh dear god!"

Wow! That traveled a serious distance still carrying some pretty sizeable chunks. Guess there is no such thing as a "safe distance" unless you're on top of a neighboring summit higher than the initial collapse.

Yup, pretty scary.

I expect similar events will occur in the glaciated mountains of the Pacific Northwest and Canadian Rockies as the climate continues to heat up.

This will make climbing Rainier, Robson and other glaciated peaks like playing Russia roulette.
