Trail Conditions: Trail was broken out to Gem pool by 3 hikers on snowshoes (thank you) and two hikers post holing. Fresh foot of snow starting at the cog trailhead. After Gem pool the snowshoers went north to the ravine while we followed the trail - snow was up to 3 feet deep in areas - waist deep just before crossing the river. Mostly wind blown as you get within 1/4 mile of hut.

Special Equipment Required: snowshoes, goggles, and an innner child for the great butt sliding on the return.

Comments: Optional - 4 youg men from north of the border caught us at the crossing above the gem pool as well as two AMC caretakers who were checking on the hut. Trail is very well broken out at this point. Had planned for Monroe or Washington, but decided at the hut that although doable, the conditions would not make for fun time, so decided to head back down.
