Fuji, the most climbed mountain in the world. Littered with trash.
Monadnock,number two. What a difference.
Thank you Andrew and staff!

Not really news...

Climbed it in 1978 and it was littered with trash then.

I climbed it twice. One as a kid in '68. Once with my kids in '97. Most of the trip is a series of switch backs on volcanic scree and dust. Its an interesting experience, sunrise is pretty spectacular if you get a good day. The huts and the hut culture is a gas, but it is a pilgrimage site with no hint of wilderness past the tree line.

Crowds form late in the day. In '97 it wasn't bad heading up in the morning, but on the way down there was a line forming on the way up. Masses of people were snaking along the switch back on the way up People were apparently hoping to get to the peak by sunrise.

The Japanese say "a wise man will climb Mount Fuji, a fool will climb it twice." I told my kids that I made a fool of myself for my children. If I have grand children and am in decent enough shape, perhaps I'll go a third time.
