I know Poison Ivy is plotting to do the Hundred Mile Wilderness and the rest of the AT from northeast of Bigelow to Abol Bridge. Others might also be contemplating hiking the Hundred Mile Wilderness or other sections in Maine. Well now I was able to get all my humongous trip reports assembled in one place on whiteblaze.net . So if anyone is interested in times, mileage, routes, and other planning hints for an AT excursion in Maine. Go here. There is some information here especially for dayhikers and car shuttling routes that I don't believe you can find anyplace else or at least not in one place. This is a series of dayhikes southbound along the AT in Maine. Although I am missing two sections, I am convinced it is reasonable to hike the AT in the state of Maine with only one night necessary to backpack!

BY THE WAY: ME AT V from East Flagstaff Road to South Arm Road will be traversed southbound as a series of dayhikes August 16-26.

A huge thank you, Aaron... I know I've found your info to be extremely helpful!

I couldn't get the attachment to open for the ME AT IV trip... I didn't have trouble with the others though.

Antlers Campsite

I did the second half of the AT 100 mile wilderness from Jo-Mary Rd. to Abol then up Katahdin a few years back. One thing that sticks out in my mind from this trip was the first night at Antlers Campsite. It is situated on a small peninsula on a backcountry lake. It is still up there in my favorite palces I've ever camped. It's gorgeous and I'd recommend it to anyone passing through that area.

A stay at Antlers campsite has to be the top recommendation I've received from everyone I've talked to about hiking the 100-Mile Wilderness. I hope it lives up to my expectations at this point... I'm definitely going to plan to spend a night there!

Ivy, when we did the Hundred a few years ago (7? Wow!) the Rainbow Lake area campsites were full, so we tented in the woods a mile or two down the trail, just far enough back from the trail and the lake to be legal and responsible. :) It was a beautiful spot, and we sat on the shore for quite awhile before heading up to sleep.

There are many similar spots along the Hundred that must be equally enjoyable, so don't hesitate to take advantage of them.

It's a wonderful hike, I hope you enjoy it tremendously!
