Seven of us, two Sawyers and five brush swampers started clearing blowdowns from the "J" trail. This trail is part of the AT which runs from Quintown Road to the Summit of Smart's Mtn.
We worked for six hours and only got to within a mile and a half from the summit. Deep snow and time constraints turned us around before hitting the summit. Around thirty blowdowns of all sizes removed. Except for me, all of the work crew were students from Dartmouth College and the Dartmouth Outing Club.
Incidentally, the DOC monitors this web site for AT trail reports listing blowdowns and other maintenance issues. So please don't hesitate to describe what you are encountering out there on the trail. I have a sense that other "agencies" look in here also. Good trail reporting is a volunteer activity too
PS It's kinda fun to work with people who are several years younger than my 26 year old Limmers.
All the best, TomW
