I just checked the auroral map, showing the potential for high activity over the Adirondacks. Bummer, it was cloudy a couple of hours ago, but I stepped outside anyway just in case, to a surprisingly clear sky. I have a dull green glow just up off the northern horizon, no motion to it. I'll check back again every half hour, as these things can flare up to high visibility and disappear just as quickly.

By the way.. thanks for the head's up, Doug. WNY had cloudy conditions, and I couldn't see anything in particular... and then I forgot to set the alarm for an early check before dawn. The local TV weather guy did give it plenty of coverage, too.

I've been very lucky to have seen AB several times, two of which were simply awesome!! One coming back from the ADK's in the 70's after late July 4th party, and the other late on our final nite aboard Holland America's Amsterdam heading from Ketchikan, AK into Vancouver, BC. I met one of the ship's officer's on the elevator on my way back to my suite and he said it was one of the best they had ever seen (they were considering an all-page announcement at 2:20AM).

The big news though is that this should happen again Saturday night!!!
Nice pics.

I saw a bit of glow to the north ~11pm here. But there is always some glow to the north from here--now if I could just get those cities to the north to turn off their lights...

By ~1am, the sky was fully covered by light clouds.
