Another weekend, another 7 peaks.

Macomb, South Dix, East Dix, Hough, Dix, Giant, Rocky Peak.

Once again Zer0-G and I hooked up for another Daks trip. We also hooked up with Gail who would be our guide who flawlessly led us thru the Dix range.

I had been corresponding with Gail for several weeks and as it turned out we were both planning to hike the Dix Range this weekend. We made arrangements to meet at the cairn for the path up to Macomb. Zer0-G and I hiked into the campsite on Saturday morning to find Gail lacing up her boots and ready to go.

We proceeded up the path to the slide and up to the summit. The day was a comfortable 70 deg with sunny blue skies. The views were awsome.

After a short break and a few pictures it was on to South Dix and East Dix. More of the same. Awsome, awsome views.

We then backtracked to South Dix to look for the path over to Hough. We proceeded over the Hogback and up to Hough. If I said it once, I'll say it again, awsome views. It seemed like every view was better than the last.

We had lunch on the summit of Hough and mover on towards Dix. Over the Beckhorn and on to Dix. The were about 15 hikers up on the summit of Dix admiring the awsome, awsome views. We got a great look over to Giant and Rocky Peak. This was our destination for tomorrow. We could have stayed longer on Dix, but with daylight burning we had to move on. We came down and out thru Hunters Pass.

We made it back to Gail's campsite where her friend Cheryl was holding down the fort, or should I say tent. We thanked Cheryl for lending Gail to us, and told her if it wasn't for two slow pokes, she would have been back sooner. We said our goodby's and headed out to the parking lot to relocate for the next day hike.

I have to say it one more time AWSOME VIEWS.

Sunday Zer0-G and I were on the trail again by 6:00. We needed to be out and on the road by noon, so we had to hustle. We made a steady climb of it to the summit of Giant. Again a nice sunny day. And did I forget to mention AWSOME views. We had a brief snack and took a few pictures and we were off to Rocky Peak.

The trail over to Rocky was a little steeper than we had anticipated, but we managed to keep right on schedule. We made it to the summit, had an early lunch and started out return trip back to the car. Our return trip was pretty much non-stop except for a few breathers. We would have liked to spend a little more time up there but we needed to get back home. We were out by 11:30 and heading home.

If I didn't say it before, we had a great trip, with AWSOME, AWSOME views and met some wonderful new friends. We agreed that these two hikes would go down in our list of favorites.

Great Pics Doodles!

A topic of conversation came up during the second day. I, being one who is truly being in abscence of complaining whilst out and about when it comes to the weather, hiking, terrain etc., asked How would you rate this hike? On a scale of one to 10.

One being "loving it", 10 being, "can't believe how freakin' great this hike is!".

Well, as you can tell by Doodles enthusiastic review, it was somewhere between 8 and 10.

It would be nearly impossible to say anything bad about either day.

I was totally taken by the perfect combination of ease of travel, atmosphere of the terrain and herd paths, the weather and the "crew".

I remember getting back down to the parking area after returning from Giant and Rocky Peak Ridge, crossing that little stream, slapping that wet bandanna around my neck , washing my face, popping off the boots and submerging my dogs in the icy currents, leaning back with a smile on my face and thinking, "Now, this is the way to live..."
