Trails: Mt. Kinsman and Bald Peak spur
Conditions: Packed to the junction with the spur. We broke trail in about a foot of fresh snow (deeper in some drifts) for the spur's two-tenths of a mile.
Special equipment: Snowshoes. Two people had barebooted coming down the Mt. Kinsman Trail before we got started, and I didn't see any postholes from their effort. Still, I was glad to be in snowshoes, especially for the upper mile. Snowshoes were essential on the spur to Bald Peak.
Comment: This was a first mountain snowshoeing experience for my new hiking partner. He chose to bareboot the whole thing -- four-wheel drive really helps.
