The Balsam Lake Fire Tower will be open weekends this summer, from June to early October. The plan is for the tower to be staffed the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th weekends of the month. (Efforts are underway to expand the schedule). Volunteers will be on hand, offering tours of the restored Ranger cabin, and showing visitors stunning views of the Catskill high peaks, from the refurbished Fire Tower. During your visit, the volunteers will also answer your questions, such as, "Why are these towers here?", "how many fires do you see every year?", and "who pays for all this?!".
Your children can get a signed card, stating that they completed a fire tower hike.
And as a bonus, we have free reprints of the Smokey The Bear Comic Book, for the young kids and the big kids!
So don't delay, plan your hike today!
