Wasn't sure if this should go here or in general New England forum, but what the heck, it's a trip report and thought it might be of some interest.
Our take on the BANFF Film Festival that came to Portsmouth yesterday: That Sherpa just jumped off Mount Everest!

Friend Gwen and I went last night and totally agree with what Dan just wrote, with the exception of the line to the Men's bathroom. Each film was great in its own way. I was trying to imagine having the composure the young climber exibits, wondering how people overcome such loss as were in two of the films, and how some people just have no fear. Imagine skiing down urban streets, jumping over cars..., through alleys, sending sparks up from pavement-meets-edges. I thought the creativity was amazing, but am a novice on the facets of small film making. Then the was the surprise they threw in at the end. The show was so exciting I was numb with exhaustion by the end. But at least I got my free bag of coffee. She got coffee AND won a tent.

Hi Ellen, it was great to see you at the show! I should have mentioned something about that last film, I'm still laughing every time I thing about avalanche rescue cats! And Gwen won the tent? Lucky! See you soon!

I laughed pretty hard at the rescue cats film at the Portland show on Monday, too. How did that guy keep a straight face??? :D
I was thinking about getting to the Regent in Arlington on Monday or Tuesday as well; is anyone else going?

I went to the Portsmouth show as well. As always, a great selection of amazing films with wonderful and creative people and breathtaking suroundings.

Impossiable to pick a favorite, but I have to say, I was thinking about how I missed out skiing from 'stuck-again heights' to Merrill field to get to work every day on the way home! (sorry, inside Alaska joke) That 'Urban skiing' segment was great!

I'd like to add that the Portsmouth show supports a very good cause.

Not sure about the other venues, but I hope they all do the same.

Chris_ We thought about going to Mass. as well, but it looks like we won't be able to make it. If you go, let us know how it went. I'm curious about what films they pick!
Hi Chinook, yeah the urban skiing segment was pretty neat. Manchester has petty steep hills that go down toward the river....hmmmmm!
