Not too often one gets to experience genuine deep snow this close to home....*
*home= NYC area
Parking lot is plowed (and parking costs $7)
Trail conditions:
Lower half of mountain:
1-2' of snow on the ground, very well packed trail, snowshoes not needed, traction aids not really needed, though something like microspikes might have helped a bit
Upper half of mountain:
Deep snow off the trail (2-3' - possibly more in spots). Trail still well packed but snowshoes recommended - those who barebooted were postholing in spots even though not everywhere. A very nice treat.
temps were above freezing today - lower trail will be very very solid the rest of this week, likely to get icy in spots if more freeze/thaw cycles occur as forecast. same conditions may solidify upper trail a bit more.
