Black Mountain (Middle Peak) via Black Mountain Ski Trail, East Pasture XC Ski Trail
Date of Hike: Sunday, March 1, 2009
Trail Conditions: Frozen granular
Special Equipment Required: Snowshoes above cabin
Comments:
Parking lot at end of Meloon Road plowed.
Black Mountain Ski Trail was basically frozen granular from the base to the cabin. Most of the snowbridges over the creeks/waterbars are holding up (some just barely), but two water bars are lacking bridges (no problem for hikers, but perhaps not great for skiers!). Barebootable to cabin.
Black Mountain Ski Trail from Cabin to East Pasture XC Ski Trail - frozen granular as well, snowshoes a good idea. Some postholes.
East Pasture XC Ski Trail to summit - same as last segment of Black Mountain Ski Trail. Heading downhill, East Pasture XC Ski Trail didn't look like it had been particularly heavily used since the last storm.
While there are plenty of leaning trees which have been limbed, there are no blowdowns.
