We had great weather at the Balsam Lake Mountain Fire Tower over the weekend. It never got past 75, we had great views, and over 100 people showed up Saturday-Monday!
While hiking in hot weather is more difficult, the rewards of standing on a fire tower with a cool breeze blowing are tremendous.
Visitors ranged from a 1 year old (mostly carried up), to those well advanced in years. Some came from as far away as Honduras and France, while others lived right down in the Dry Brook Valley.
This year marks the 125th Anniversary of BLM being a fire tower site, the oldest in NY State! There should be some volunteers at the tower every weekend all the way thru Columbus Day this year. We plan to have several special events, so stay tuned!
