I climbed Blue Mountain this morning with 4 friends from school. We managed to get up and back down again before the rain started. Set out from the trailhead around 11:30 am and reach the summit by 1:00 pm. The trail was in very good shape, very well packed down with few signs of post holing. We only encountered a couple of icy spots on the way up which were easy to walk around. We passed on or two bare spots near the trailhead as well. Evidence of the 95 microburst could still be seen on the way up.
At the summit, the shed containing the equipment for the repeater antenna on the tower was unlocked… hopefully it will be relocked soon, as it looks like someone could do a lot of damage in there. The view from the fire tower was nice, and in fact it is necessary to climb the tower to get a view. We could see the tower on Wakely Mountain as well as Wakely dam itself, and had some nice views of Tirell Pond, across which I hiked a couple of months ago to finish the Northville-Placid Trail. Overall it was a nice short hike of moderate difficulty. One less mountain to go for the fire tower challenge.
