Blueberries!

I did a short hike to a firetower near my house this past weekend (Stissing Mountain in Pine Plains, NY - 107 steps, quite tall!!!), and saw my first blue blueberries. I probably live further south than most of you, but has anyone else seen blueberries yet, or Strawberries (I have), or any other tasty morsels of wild fruit ?

Mmm... berries

Most of the blueberries I've seen so far (Gunks, Breakneck) have been not quite ripe. I don't know if elevation is a contributing factor or not. Where did you find the wild strawberries?

They were down low, in Poughkeepsie, but wild...

Lots of them going up Mt. Greylock this weekend!! Most ripe, some just turning. Mmm Mmm good!

Wild strawberries are out in the Dacks. Down low.

Seems a little early for blueberries (haven't noticed any, but have been in the high peaks, primarily) maybe the heat has pushed them?

Loads of wild strawberries on the lower sections of trails around Waterville Valley. I saw some blueberries along the Garfield Ridge Trail between Galehead and Garfield on Sunday but they were not quite ripe.

Gunks Blueberries

I was hiking the High Peterskill Trail this past weekend at the Gunks, blue berries were about 30% in. By this weekend the patches should be bursting with tasty berries.

I picked a lot this past weekend, and there were A LOT more ready to be picked. I had to stop, I was holding up the group...

If you're in Pinkham notch go to the Wildcat ski area. On the lower slopes of the Polecat trail and others are some of the best wild strawberries I've ever seen. Bring BUG SPRAY!
