How many of you while Bushwacking in the Whites have encountered gray jays? Where?

Thanks for your help.

Grey Jays

The Jays are everywhere humans have eaten sandwiches or bars or Gorp.
Unlike other wildlife they'll seek YOU out. They come right to your hand and peck at your offering. Chances are if your bushwacking, no one has been in that spot eating before.
Incdentally I have never encountered a deer/wildcat or bear while moving off or on trail in 6 decades of plowing thru the backcountry... plenty of signs of them, tracks, scat, fur on tree barbs, but no
animal. We must make a deafening sound to them.
Asleep in a tent, now that's a whole other story!!

I have been "attacked" by them twice on the summit of Mahoosuc, and there is no trail there, it's a bw. While I was taking my son's picture, one of the little thieves swooped down and made off with the remains of a sandwich he had been eating. It was a great experience for us!

thanks for the responses. I am currently working on a project and wanted to get an idea of other people's encounters with them away from the heavely frequented sites.
