I decided to start my vacation by hiking Cabot, since it is the furthest north of the 48 and farthest from my home. I began on the Unknown Pond Trail off Mill Brook Road in Stark. The weather was clear and comfortable. The only obstacle I had early on was hiking through several well maintained spider webs. I stopped briefly at Unknown Pond. There wasn't a single ripple on the water. Its appearance was quaint, serene, and comforting. An author or poet would have had the time of his/her life sitting by the pond on that day! I headed south down Kilkenny Ridge Trail until I got to the intersection of the Horn. There wasn't any trail marker indicating the intersection so I went ahead. I passed the caron on the Bulge and realized I had passed the Horn. I kept going ahead until I reached the summit of Cabot. It was rather disapointing; just a tree with a sign on it. I headed back the way I came looking to hike to the Horn in order to get a view. I returned to the junction for the Horn and headed straight. I sat up there for about a half hour, enjoying lunch and a spectacular view of the Northern Presidentials. This alone made the trip well worth it. I headed back down to my car noting several frogs and one snake on the trail. Overall, it was a fun trip. If you do Cabot, make sure you do the Horn, especially on a clear day!

I'm suprised you still had legs left after the traverse the day before! (it took me a couple of days just to revocer!) Unknown Pond is a beautiful spot and I agree that the views from the Horn make this trip! :)

So, what # does this make for you??

And what a day there must have been for views from the Presidentials the day after we traversed them! Awsome for doing Cabot, I've been avoiding it for a while now.

Same way I climbed Cabot a few years back for my 48th (ugh). Unknown Pond is just awesome and I agree the Horn is a great place to hang for awhile.

mine too. Except I skipped the Horn because it was pouring rain on the way back down. Guess I have to go back sometime.
