Date of Hike: MLK day Monday 1/19/09
Trail Conditions: fresh powder over a clearly visible footway. near the bottom the fresh powder was 2-3 inches; up top, more like 6 inches. we wandered off trail a bit between the wee humble cabin and the summit but did find the summit sign.
lots of fresh powder still in the trees - on a narrower, more overgrown trail, we would have been showered constantly. so thank you to those who maintain this trail.
Special Equipment Required: snowshoes essential.
Comments: if there is a parking spot, anywhere nearby, that does NOT piss off one of the local residents, we failed to find it. we returned to our vehicle to find a polite but rather tart note, neatly taped to our driver's side window. blocking private driveways (not). blocking town and private plows (not). in general, contributing to the decline of western civilization (well okay, we were listening to Led Zeppelin while en route). the road was clearly already plowed and sanded. we made all efforts to keep our vehicle out of the way.
technical difficulties with photos today. so I have only a few shots with my new Blackberry - this device was my employer's idea, not mine, I assure you -at www.pbase.com/jonathantr. a few supplementary 35mm scans will be posted within the next few days.
