via Munroe, Dean and the Long Trail, with Trish, Toby and Augzilla.
Trails in decent shape, but very wet in places at lower elevations. Lots of rime ice on the trees higher up, as well as a dusting of snow on the summit.
Traction devices weren't necessary (at least not yet)
Beautiful day for a hike! The mist lifted early and we had gorgeous views off all sides.
Didn't stay on the summit long due to the wind and the large flock of 6th graders. Apparently some schools in Vermont have a "hike Vermont day" and this was one of their field trips? I probably have the details wrong (my dog does not like crowds or kids, so we didn't stay to chat), but it sounds like a brilliant idea.
Might have picked a less popular trail if we'd known (lots of non-6th-graders on the trail, too), but I wish more schools encouraged students to enjoy the outdoors.
Dog note: the dogs (Toby and Augie) loved the trails. Lots of water for them, rocks all do-able. You are required to keep dogs on leash above treeline to protect the vegetation, though, which can make for a very tricky scramble.
