Hi-Cannon Trail to the summit, snowing most of the way up. No views from the top. Snow on the entire trail with ice underneath. Some snow drifts resulted in sinking about knee deep, but only a few times. Minimal wind, even on the tower which is totally covered in rime ice! Very pretty, especially the smiling faces on the viewfinders! Down the Kinsman Ridge trail and then road hike back to the car!
No need for snowshoes, although we had them just in case. 3 of us wore our microspikes, while the 4th barebooted. Would not have wanted to hike this without the microspikes right now. Still more snow is needed before snowshoes are necessary. Poles came in handy. 1 person had a sled and used it quite a bit on the way down, dodging lots of uncovered rocks, roots and ending up with a sore butt at the end of the day!
Fun day, great company! Thanks Skip, AKA Lurch...Mary, AKA hosesucker and Susie the sledder!
