Just bagged the 3rd of my 48 on Sunday.
My friend Andy B. and I did Cannon mtn. We started out around 10:30 or so from the parking lot at the tram station.
Weather was very warm and humid. quite the change from Moosilauke 2 weeks ago.
I've really only got 1 description for the Kinsman Trail, and it is the same as the White mtn book describes it. This sucker is arduous. Right from the gun it is just constant climbing. I do have to admit though, that it is a good nice trail. It was wet in some places with the lichen/moss making some of the rocks a bit slick at times. Even given the weather we did see some snow still in the woods at one point.
We took the time to visit the lookout near the Old Man. Nice views, but the haze of the day had most of the other mtns hidden.
From there we continued on to the top and up the observation tower. It is a relatively steep but short trail. Only 2 miles from car to top. We stopped at the tower and had a snack, chilled for a bit and made fun of the people who took the tram up.
Not much of a "serene" setting on top of this mtn. With any person willing to pay the fee and ride the tram you see all sorts at the top. Smelling burgers and dogs cooking in the tram station is a little odd too.
We're glad we took the "harder" route up and were rewarded with a nice 15 degree drop in temp and a slight breeze.
On out way down we ran into some people who were just clueless in our minds. 3 guys, one of the hiking in shoes. 1 backback and 1 water bottle between the three of them, plus the slight rain that had started and the thunder heard in the distance all made me wonder what the heck these guys were thinking. They asked us how much longer till the top. We had been descending almost 40 minutes at that point and that really took the wind out of their sails. they turned around and we proceeded to let them go ahead so that we didn't have to deal with them behind us.
Saw a few other "couples" hiking together, however when you drop your wife/girlfriend by a few hundred yards, I don't think you're winning much in the way of brownie points with her. Slow down a bit and take some time to spend with your S.O. You're lucky she is even hiking with you :D
All in all I thought the hike wasn't too bad. 3 hours round trip. The change in weather is nice too.
We're planning our next trip for 7/3 or 7/10. Not sure which one to hit next. I'm trying to push my hiking buddy for a multi-peak day, but he is not in as good a shape as me. We shall see.

Nice trip report, and good luck on the remaining 45! You guys didn't run into any traffic from Motorcycle Week on the way up?

The motorcycle week traffic wasn't too bad. I live in Concord and I know most of it is centralized between exit 14 & Exit 20. Route 106 is also pretty busy with motorcycles. Once we got past Tilton the traffic thinned out considerably. The hassle was coming home around 3:30. From Canterbury to Concord was just one constant mess of bikes stopping on the side of the road to put on rain gear, cars slowing to quawk and then speeding up again.
