On Tuesday, 12/29, we’re planning to hike a loop of Cannon and The Kinsmans from Lafayette Place.

We plan to start hiking at 7:00am. Our pace is moderate. With the current conditions we expect the hike to run ~25% over book time.

If you’re interested in joining the fun or want additional details; please respond to this thread or by PM.

I've heard from a few people with questions...

The hike is still on as advertised but we're looking at a meet time at Lafayette Place of ~6:30am.

The planned route makes for a very sheltered hike which will mean we won't be generally exposed to expected wind except for the summit area on S. Kinsman and the Cannon tower if we decide to climb it.

According to the National Weather Service, the midday temp at the general elevation of the ridge and summits is forecast for 8 degrees with a wind of 35 mph. This comes in at a windchill value of -16. But, windchill only applies to exposed skin and we won't have any during the short time we're exposed to the wind.

Additionally, the wind is forecast from the northwest. The route will not only be sheltered by trees but much of it will be sheltered by terrain as well.

The weekend rain and re-freeze should leave a nice solid base under the new couple inches of snow that are expected this afternoon and tonight. We should enjoy pretty nice hiking conditions.

If you're on the fence about the hike, this information may help you decide one way or the other.

It should be a fairly comfortable hike.

:)
