Trail: Hi Cannon to Cannon
Trail conditions: Light fresh snow over a firm base. Excellent trail conditions from the parking lot to the summit. One blowdown.
Special equipment: Full winter gear (it was -10 in the lot when I started). Bare booting was possible but some sought of traction was helpful. I use crampons on the ascent but when some postholing started to occur on the descent I switched to snowshoes (could have been used on the ascent).
Comments: Cannon was plan B for today. Given the temps and the wind I decided on Cannon. It turned out to be a good choice. There was no wind until the summit. I had considered descending Kinsman Ridge Tr. but it looked like I would have had to deal with more wind. every time I've done Cannon I always enjoy the hike. It was a great solo day....only ran into two other hikers the entire day.
