Please Join us for our 2007 Capitol Christmas Tree Harvest Ceremony on
November 16 in the Green Mountain National Forest.

What: Harvesting of the 2007 Capitol Christmas Tree, guest speakers Hannah
Teter and Governor Jim Douglas
Appearances by Santa Claus, Smokey Bear
When: Friday, November 16, 10 a.m. to Noon
Where: Somerset Landing Strip, Forest Road 71 (Somerset Road) approximately 6-8 miles from the Route 9 turn off outside Bennington, Vermont. More detailed instructions, with a map, will be available several days prior to the ceremony on the website.
Please bring your family and friends, wear waterproof boots, and dress for
inclement weather. Hot chocolate and cookies will be provided to warm you
up!

Does the Capitol really put up a sugar maple for a Christmas tree? I didn't realize Vermont had any Christmas trees.
If you bushwhacked more VT 3k you would see plenty of firs, even if not as thick as ME

Interestingly, the VT state seal has a pine not a maple, on one of my peakbagging trips I went by a historic marker for the pine allegedly depicted on the seal which had died of old age
