Some friends and I hiked up to Mt. Carigain, and bushwhacked over to Vose Spur.
Trails: Sawyer River Road, to Signal Ridge Trail, to Carigain Summit... all nicely broken out and fairly consolidated. A good 2 1/2 miles or more of Carigain Notch Trail are now broken out.
Equipment: Traction for the road and a good part of the trail; we all used snowshoes on Signal Ridge Trail to both protect the trail, save energy and use the heel lifts. No crampons needed.
Two of our group skied Sawyer River Road, and the other two hauled their packs in on sleds.
Note: If you go in to Vose, DO NOT follow our route up. We descended a bit too much to the SE to try to get to the trail by dark, and as a result, used a very steep face. Not sure I'd recommend following our route.
