We had planned to ski the Sawyer River Road but it was like cement, so we walked it. Signal Ridge Trail was well-packed for its entire length, a little softer and blown in toward the top. Crossings were solidly bridged. Lots of cross drainage trenches so it wouldn't ski well at this point. Bushwhack to avoid first crossing wasn't broken out or necessary. A few minor blowdowns. Lots of face shrubbery up high. No ice. Notch Trail hadn't been broken out recently, nor had Desolation Trail.
We carried snowshoes but wore Microspike ST's car to car. There was no postholing as long as one stayed in the center of the track.
Wonderful day, not too cold or windy and with stunning views to the Presidentials and beyond from the ridge and the summit. Great to run into Hiker Ed, as enthusiastic as ever. And congrats to Giff on NH Winter 4X!
