19 Mile Brook trail, Carter Dome trail, Carter-Moriah trail
19 Mile trail well broken out. Carter Dome trail was drifted but now well broken out. Zeta Pass to Dome has areas with huge drifts. With the wind today our efforts will be filled in quickly. On descent we decided to climb Hight. Trail was difficult to find and the drifts were challenging. The wind on the summit was the most challenging we ever experienced. It took all of our weight to lean into the winds to keep from being knocked over. We decided it was best to descend the same way instead of fighting the wind and breaking the trail. So only the south section leading to Mt Hight is broken out.
Equipment: snow shoes the whole way. Parkas, goggles, and big mittens with hand warmers.
Views from the Top were awesome even with the winds. On our ascent we could hear the helicopter in the distance. Our sympathies are with the Madison/Adams hiker family.
