Did South and Middle Carter via 19 Mile Brook trail, Carter Dome trail, Carter-Moriah and down southern leg of Imp, bushwacking back to the trailhead from where Cowboy Brook approaches the trail. Day started off with a Fall hike, leaves blanketing the trail but soon snow was encountered. By the time we reached the top, 3 inches of powder and 20 degree day. Very little wind. Footing was fine overall- no traction devices were needed, just care going over the ledges along Carter-Moriah trail. Felt like winter. Low cloud cover obscured views to the Presidentials. Had a brief, beautiful opening to the east with Baldfaces snow covered, still bright yellows in the valleys, snow at our feet. Great day in the mountains.
